How to install a water line for a refrigerator. Running a water pipe to a refrigerator to supply its ice maker and drinking water dispenser has become simpler.

It used to be done by slithering together long strings of narrow-bore copper tubes that could be bent in any direction at any time.

Today, however, there are more practical push-fit connectors, such as 1/4-inch flexible conduits in various widths and Add-A-Tee adapter fittings, which are frequently located right next to the shutoff valve.

Because saddle valves are no longer required, this method is less expensive and less prone to leaks than the prior system. However, it does provide more flexibility between joints than the traditional fixed elbows.

Thread the top portion of the Add-a-Tee adapter onto the main valve’s outlet port.

Tighten it with your hand first, then with two pairs of pliers (one to tighten, the other to hold the valve).

This component can be used on pipes made of copper, plastic, or other materials.

Step 4: Connect the Faucet

Attach the supply tube to the 3/4-inch faucet spout. Tighten it with a wrench so that it does not fall off. Connect one end of the 1/4 inch flexible supply line and tighten it with a twist.

Now you are ready to attach the tool and begin.

Step 5: Connect the Refrigerator’s Supply Tube

Connect the new supply tube to the 1/4-inch water supply fitting on the refrigerator and run it to the back of the fridge.

With a pair of pliers, tighten this connection just a little more than hand-tight – you don’t want it to be too tough to spin, but you do want it to be snug!

Step 6: Turn on the Water

Turn the knob counterclockwise until it is completely open, or turn the lever parallel to the water line to open the shutdown valve under the sink.

Check all connections for leakage. If none of them have any leaks, firmly push your refrigerator back into its original position.

Check whether the dispenser and ice maker are in working order.
